RMS Titanic and SS New York

RMS Titanic and SS New York

April 1912

As Titanic was leaving Southampton on her maiden voyage she had to steam through a narrow channel in the Solent. This was made narrower still by the number of ships tied up and idle due to a coal strike. As she passed the New York her wash caused the other ship to drift out from the dock and the two almost collided. Quick thinking by Captain Smith averted disaster.
